TallyPrime loads add-ons from the TDL & Add-on manager. The steps below work for both .txt (uncompiled) and .tcp (compiled) files on any TallyPrime release.
Before you start
- Take a backup of your company data
- Copy the TDL file into a permanent folder, for example C:\Tally\TDL — not the Downloads folder
- Note the exact file name and extension
- Close any other Tally instance running on the same machine
Steps to load the add-on
- 1Open TallyPrime and press F1 (Help).
- 2Select TDL & Add-on, then press F4 (Manage Local TDLs).
- 3Set Load selected TDL files on startup to Yes.
- 4In the TDL configuration list, type the full path and file name of your TDL, for example C:\Tally\TDL\gst-invoice.tcp.
- 5Press Ctrl+A to accept, then restart TallyPrime.
- 6Open a company and check the new menu, report or print format added by the add-on.
How to disable or remove a TDL
Return to F1 > TDL & Add-on > F4, set the file's status to No, and accept. The add-on stops loading at the next restart while the file stays on your disk in case you want it back.
Multi-user and Tally on cloud setups
In a multi-user (Gold) licence, the add-on must be loaded on each machine that needs it, unless you host it centrally. On a cloud or remote-desktop Tally, ask your hosting provider to place the file on the server and load it there.
Frequently asked questions
Where should I keep the TDL file?
In a fixed folder such as C:\Tally\TDL. If the file is moved or deleted later, Tally will show a loading error at start-up.
Do I need to restart TallyPrime?
Yes, a restart is the reliable way to apply a newly loaded add-on.
Can I load more than one TDL?
Yes. Add each file on a separate line in the TDL configuration list. If two add-ons change the same screen, they may conflict — load them one at a time to identify the clash.
